A Queen can be BLOCKED by a friendly piece. Here, the Queen CANNOT move onto or beyond the squares occupied by the White Pawns.

A Queen can CAPTURE an enemy piece by moving onto its square. In this position the White Queen can CAPTURE either Black Pawn. To make a capture you take the enemy piece off the board and replace your piece on that square. It's NOT the same as checkers (draughts) - you DO NOT capture by jumping over an enemy piece.
