This lesson shows you how the Queen moves.

It can move like a Rook: up, down, left, right.

It can also move diagonally, like a Bishop.

The Queen is your most powerful piece. In the center of the board it can go to 27 squares. Count 'em!

A Queen can be BLOCKED by a friendly piece.

Here, the Queen CANNOT move onto or beyond the squares occupied by the White Pawns.

A Queen can CAPTURE an enemy piece by moving onto its square.

In this position the White Queen can CAPTURE either Black Pawn.

To make a capture you take the enemy piece off the board and replace your piece on that square.

It's NOT the same as checkers (draughts) - you DO NOT capture by jumping over an enemy piece.

Watch the movie and see how the White Queen captures the Black Pawns.
