A Bishop can be BLOCKED by a friendly piece. Here, the Bishop CANNOT move onto or beyond the square occupied by the White Pawn.

A Bishop can CAPTURE an enemy piece by moving onto its square. In this position the White Bishop can CAPTURE the Black Pawn. To make a capture you take the enemy piece off the board and replace your piece on that square. It's NOT the same as checkers (draughts) - you DO NOT capture by jumping over an enemy piece.
