You need to be highly intelligent anad logical to be a general.

This means you have to understand how battles are won, drawn and lost, and what happens when you are in danger - CHECK, CHECKMATE and STALEMATE.

You learnt about this in the King School. Go back and repeat some of the games if you think you've forgotten.

You also need to know the values of the pieces (Pawn: 1 point, Knight: 3 points, Bishop: 3 points, Rook: 5 points, Queen: 9 points) and understand Here you will be able to test your chessboard logic.
